Columbia University President

I heard on the radio this morning that Mr. Bollinger was invited to speak in Iran. Seems that they did not take to kindly to the treatment Mr. Ahmadinjad received. I'll bet a US state nickel that he does not go.
What I don't understand is what did Columbia stand to gain from inviting that jerk to speak? I just don't get it.

a university should a place where the exhange of ideas takes place irregardless. they key and test of a democracy is when you are willing to insist on the right of someone to speak when you have soent a lifetime supportind the opposing view.
