South Dakota Governor Halts Execution of Killer in Torture Case, Citing Conflict With Laws

PIERRE, S.D. -- Gov. Mike Rounds halted South Dakota's first execution in 59 years just hours before it was scheduled Tuesday, saying the state law detailing how to administer lethal drugs is obsolete.

Elijah Page, 24 and two other young men killed Chester Allan Poage, 19 in the Black Hills so that there would be no witness to the theft of a Chevy Blazer, stereo, television, coin collection, video game and other items from the victim's home.
As Poage begged for his life, the three men made him take off most of his clothes and forced him into an icy creek. They stabbed him repeatedly, kicked him in the head 30 to 40 times, tearing his ears off, and then bashed him with large rocks. He was also forced to drink a combination of drain cleaner and beer. The torture lasted at least two hours.

EVEN THOUGH THE EXECUTION IS DELAYED UNTIL JULY 1, 2007, IT IS NOT SOON ENOUGH FOR PAGE TO GET INTERED.

I ask myself, "What is the problem with the television media these days?" Why the fascination with trying to show the American public what they think is important to you and me? Case in point. The coverage of recent Joan Benet alleged murderer, that Karr dude. The media circus reminds me of the Hollywood scene. Mr. Karr has upstaged Brad and Angelina. Is it that the American public does not have time to read the newspapers? Maybe its the instant gratification syndrome that WE are afflicted with. The more I think of this attraction for news hounds to aquire the scoop of the day the more I believe that we have been conditioned to be in tune with all the talking points of the day. We watch TV, listen to the radio and read the papers so that we will be ready to participate at the watering hole. It all boils down to what I think is a craving for recognition, acceptance and self gratification.

After hearing what the Iranian and the Syrian bullies of the Middle East Block had to say after the United Nations proclaimed the cease fire in Lebanon I say, "lets make like a sheep herder and get the flock out of the United Nations and send every ambassador back to their own country". This global political posturing is for the weak hearted. The only positive thing that will come out of this cease fire episode is that it will give the Bullie's Gorillas time to reorganize and attack again when the United Nations goes back to the good things that the UN thinks its doing in the world.
Some Americans want a global community but let me say that in order to have a global community we cannot be isolationists. If you want to be global than we have to accept the problems of the world. We accept them or try to change them. Kind of reminds me of playing a game and the players want to make their own rules. What happened to the League of Nations? The United States never joined the League of Nations due to Congress in America barring the country from being part of the League: they felt that America had already had too much involvement in Europe's affairs, and did not want to be a part of Europe's international disputes any more. Pack up the bags the party is over.
